Zuzana Piussi graduated from the Directing Department at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU). Between 1992 and 2000, she collaborated with the Stoka Theater. In her films, she addresses problematic phenomena within Slovak and Czech society; for her film Nemoc třetí moci (Disease of the Third Power), she faced up to two years in prison and a fine of three-quarters of a million crowns. As a co-author, she participated in the films Selský rozum (Peasant Common Sense) (2017), Univerzity a svoboda (Universities and Freedom) (2019), and Obléhání města (Siege of a City) (2019). She followed her feature documentary Ukradený stát (The State Capture) (2019), which explored democratic deficits in the post-socialist bloc, with the film Očista (The Purge) (2021) about the judicial crisis in Slovakia.
